A Clearer View: Our Webcam Just Got An Upgrade

One of the most popular pages on our website is our Weather page. In part because it has weather forecasts and current conditions, but largely because of the 24/7 Live Webcam. We get frequent emails, messages, and calls about it and how folks use it; before a weekend on the water, or just to daydream about Lake Champlain from your desk during the week.  We have even heard from the National Weather Service in BTV who utilizes it to check southern lake conditions.

If you checked in the last 2 weeks, you may have seen a psycidellic looking picture.  Our prior camera, after 5 years of heroic service, has decided the warm sunny July days are were hot to handle, and had issues with one of the video processing chips overheating.

A strange colorful image caused by the webcam overheating.

The camera needed a replacement and if something's worth doing, it's worth doing well.  After some troubleshooting we ordered a replacement camera, removed the old one, and got the new one online and streaming to Youtube. If you've looked recently you may have noticed the view looking sharper. That's because we've upgraded our 24/7 marina webcam to 4K, with a larger image sensor to provide better night-time viewing.

Whether you're a slip holder keeping an eye on your boat, a camper checking conditions before heading up, or one of the many folks who just enjoy a live window onto Lake Champlain, we hope you enjoy the new view as much as we do.

And if you haven't, come see it in person sometime, we promise the water looks even better in real life.
